  • English, William Eastin was born on November 3, 1854 in at Englishton Park, Indiana, United States. Son of William H. E. (Democratic candidate for vice president United States, 1880) and Emma Mardulia (Jackson) E.

    • Educated Northwestern Christian (now Butler) U. Bachelor of Laws, same, 1877.


    • 1 daughter, Rosalind Orr. Practiced law at Indianapolis until 1882. Always active and prominent in politics, and member state, company and city coms.

      (chairman two latter, 1878). Member Indiana House of Representatives, 1879-1880. Member 48th Congress (1883-1885), declined reelection.

      President of the board of park commissioner, 1898-1899, board police and fire commissioner, 1901-1902, Indianapolis. Member Indiana State Senate, 1916-1928. In practice with daughter under firm name English & English, since 1925.

      Spent several years in foreign travel. Appointed, 1898, captain United States Vols., served aide-de-camp on staff General Joseph Wheeler during campaign in Cuba. Seriously injured during battle before Santiago, July 1, 1898.

      Colonel and p.m. general on staff governor of Indiana, 1899-1900, colonel and inspector general, 1900-1904, and colonel and aide-de-camp, 1904-1920. Has large property interests. Owner English’s block, English’s Opera House, Hotel English, etc.

      Vice-president Indiana History Society, Western Genealogical Society. Past commander in chief National Association United Spanish War Veterans.
