    Career

    • Evan Evans, of Cornell Univercity, May 23, 1878. Repeatedly won single scull and longdistance running championships of university. Won intercollegiate single scull championship, Saratoga Lake, 1876 (time: 2 miles in 13 minutes and 42¾ seconds).

      Successively reporter, city editor and manager, Troy Times. Acquired interest, 1881, equal partner with father, 1887, and on latter’s death, 1897, succeeded to editorial direction and sole ownership. Was secretary to his father during the latter’s 3 yrs’. residence at Athens as United States minister to Greece.

      Envoy Extraordinary anu Minister Plenipotentiary to Greece, Roumania and Servia, 1900-1902. Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Austria-Hungary, March 22, 1906-1910 (both posts previously held by his father).
