      Democratic candidate for government, Maine, 1908, for United States senator, 1911. Appointed assessor for State of Maine, April 1911. Apptd United States senator, September 23, 1911, for unexpired term (1911-1913) of William P. Frye, deceased.

      Became member International Joint Common for settlement of questions arising on the boundary waters between United States and Canada, October 1, 1913 (chairman United States commission). Universalist. Home: Rockland, Me.
