    • Began practice of law at Snohomish City, Washington Ty., 1883. Moved to Seattle, 1886. General counsel The Pacific Coast Company, 1895-1905.

      City attorney, Seattle, 1887-1889. Assistant district attorney for counties of King, Kitsap and Snohomish, Washington Ty., in ’80s. Active in politics for 20 years before his election to Senate.

      United States senator, 1905-1911. Appointed Envoy Extraordinary anu Minister Plenipotentiary to Colombia, 1922, resigned September 1928. Special ambassador for Colombian presidential inauguration, August 7, 1926.

      Republican.
