      Director Union National Bank, etc. Chairman Democratic State Committee, 1900-1906, Democratic Company Executive Committee, 1892-1898. Member Democratic National Committee, 1908-1920, and member Executive Committee.

      Democratic caucus nominee for United States senator, 1899, 1901, 03, 05, 07, 11. Elected United States senator for term 1913-1919 (president pro tem. United States Senate, December 1916-March 4, 1919).

      On advisory committee Limitation of Armament Conference, Washington, 1921-1922. American del Pan-American Conference, Santiago, Chile, 1923.
