Opened the first relief station for starving men, 1893-1894, and was instrumental in feeding and lodging thousands of homeless people.

A suffrage advocate for years. Chairman Woman’s School Suffrage Association of Cook Company, which secured for women the right to vote in school elections in Illinois.
