He attended Browning School, New York City. In 1902 he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree frin Columbia University, 1902. He studied at Columbia University Law School for two years. In 1905 he obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from New York Law School. He achieved Doctor of Philosophy's in literature from the University of Paris and the University of Madrid.
In 1905 he was admitted to New York bar. He worked as a counsel at Legal Aid Society. He was an assistant of district attorney for three years. He was a president of Tinker Realty Company. Tinker created the Tinker Foundation in 1959.
Member of the Louisians Historical Society (honorary life. Clubs: University, Union, Dutch Treat, Coffee House (New York).
In January 16, 1916 he married Frances McKee.
