Background
Khan was born on 2 November 1965 to Muslim parents in New Delhi, India. His father, Taj Mohammed Khan, a Pathan, was an Indian independence activist from Peshawar, British India. According to Khan, his paternal grandfather was originally from Afghanistan. His mother, Lateef Fatima, was the adopted daughter of Major General Shah Nawaz Khan of the Janjua Rajput clan, who served in the Indian National Army. He was very attached to his parents as a child and describes their early deaths as a turning point in his life and as his biggest motivation for hard work.
Education
Khan was accomplished in sports, drama, and academics. He won the Sword of Honour, an annual award given to the student who best represents the spirit of the school.
When Hansraj College celebrated its 50th anniversary, it gave away 17 shields to its alumni who had excelled in their lives and professions. Khan was one of them.
Career
Khan studied acting under the mentorship of theatre director Barry John at Delhi's "Theatre Action Group". His first starring role was in Lekh Tandon's television series "Dil Dariya", but due to production delays, the 1988 television series, "Fauji" was his television debut. Khan started out his career by appearing in several television serials during 1988-1990. He made his film debut with the commercially successful "Deewana" (1992). He began to achieve success at the box office from his villainous roles in films such as "Darr" (1993), "Baazigar" (1993), and "Anjaam" (1994). During his years in the Indian film industry, he won seven Filmfare best actor awards and had significant box-office success. Some of his films include "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai" (1998), "Om Shanti Om" (2007), and "Chak De India!" (2007).
The first two films that he produced under his production company was "Phhir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani" (2000) and "Ashoka" (2001) in which was a failure at the box office. His third film as a producer was "Chalte Chalte" (2003) did well at the box office.
Religion
Being a Muslim man married to a Hindu woman, Shahrukh and his wife combine both religious backgrounds into their children's education.
Views
He is an active philanthropist, funding numerous humanitarian projects and charities as well as being personally involved in them, although he prefers to keep this aspect out of the limelight.
