Career

  • He was admitted to the bar in 1906 and commenced practice in Cleveland in 1907;

    assistant city solicitor of Cleveland 1908-1910;

    member of the faculty of Western Reserve University 1911-1912;

    prosecuting attorney of Cuyahoga County 1912-1916;

    State director of commerce 1923-1928;

    appointed on April 4, 1928, as a Democrat to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Frank B. Willis and served from April 5, 1928, to December 14, 1928;

    unsuccessful candidate for the nomination in 1928 to fill the vacancy;

    continued the practice of law in Cleveland, Ohio, until his death there on August 17, 1929.
