(Art is a shortcut to philosophy declares Alexandra York i...)
Art is a shortcut to philosophy declares Alexandra York in this challenging collection of essays offered for the specific purpose of suggesting which art and ideas should be championed and advanced if we are to generate an American Renaissance at the dawn of this new millennium. The result of her efforts is no less than a blueprint for a revolution in the arts. Nothing since Tom Wolfe's The Painted Word has so daringly called for a reconsideration of where the tastemaking establishment has been taking us. Boldly addressing the anomaly of a nation experiencing both unprecedented material prosperity and cultural bankruptcy and calling herself a radical for beauty, she frankly spurns twentieth century primitivism, nihilism, deconstructionism and political correctness. As a potent antidote to our cultural malaise, she advocates revitalizing the fundamental tenets of our philosophical heritage (ancient Greece) by imbuing contemporary art created in the established Western heritage art forms--representationalism in the visual arts; melody and harmony in music; structure and ideation in the written arts--with a positive and inspiring content that celebrates the world at its most beautiful and man and woman at their best. No revivalist, she also spurns nostalgia and urges those of us who love life and the art that enhances living to enjoy and enrich our moments on this earth through art experiences that lift our spirits, move us to contemplative thought and remind us why life is worth living.

(“A psychological thriller. . . richly drawn characters. ....)
“A psychological thriller. . . richly drawn characters. . . an innovative, powerfully motivational novel.” —Dr. Michael J. Hurd, psychologist and nationally syndicated talk show host What happens when your work and your love clash with your deepest values? Leon Skillman is a rich and renowned American sculptor. Cynical, smart, handsome, and glib, he’s the darling of socialites, the press, art critics, and gossip columnists. But when he meets Tara Niforous, a highly challenging Greek-American archaeologist, his smug existence is shattered—and conflicts long buried in his soul boil to the surface. Tara is an idealist who lives for her ancient bronze and marble “gods.” But she falls irresistibly in love with Leon, who looks and acts like one in the flesh. Meanwhile, Dimitrios Kokonas—Tara’s older employer at the Athens museum where she works—has for years been secretly in love with his protégé. Intensely romantic, yet painfully shy, Dimitrios vows at last to reveal his passion to Tara. . . but now he must challenge a young god for the woman he adores. Set in Manhattan’s fast-paced, controversial art world with exotic forays to Greece, Turkey, and Palm Beach, CROSSPOINTS is unlike any other romantic suspense novel because of its thought-provoking ideas and perceptive insights. It explores not only the tangled conflicts of the human heart but also the clashing values that lie at their core. It’s an unforgettable love story that simultaneously unveils the hidden worlds of art, archaeology, family, religion, and high society—worlds where the rare quest for noble ideals must overcome the raw pull of sex, drugs, money, fame…and sometimes, of love itself. CROSSPOINTS is a story about Choice—not only the choices faced by three strong-willed people ensnared in a mind-and-heart-gripping romantic triangle but also other conflicts between and within secondary characters as well. Choice: the very kind of choices we all face in real life…and their profound consequences for our own personal and professional lives.

But nobody walks out on The Family. Zio schemes secretly to ensnare his daughter into marriage to show-biz agent Lorgan Cantrell. Trapped by his own birth, Lorgan agrees to manage her professionally but privately vows never to romance and certainly never marry this true heroine of the spirit, an act that would betray her independence and force her back into the world of La Cosa Nostra. Elena doesn’t know that her sudden career success is being orchestrated by the reluctant heir to the California “Cantrelli” Family. But things take a deadly turn when she decides to testify against her estranged father—and Zio, enraged, puts out a “hit” on his own daughter. (Why has lying become a way of life in America? How are am...)
Why has lying become a way of life in America? How are amorality and corruption raging not only in politics but also seeping into every strand of the overall cultural fabric of a country founded on principles of individualism and integrity? In this short but revelatory monograph, Alexandra York probes beneath politics into the deeper illnesses infecting the very soul of America’s identity as an exceptional nation. Defining a “culture” as the sum of a country’s core values, encompassing education, fine and popular arts and entertainment, science, physical and mental health, leisure activities, ambitions, and relationships, she claims that a whole-culture affliction is causing the United States to weaken its pride within and its power abroad. She traces this cultural decline from the dawn of the twentieth century when the first proposals for the “transformation”—destruction—of Western civilization’s traditional values of honesty, reason, responsibility, productivity, independence, and individual worth to today’s resultant social, business and political maladies. America is more than a place, she insists, it is a state of mind that is now suffering from the deleterious ideas that have been injected purposefully into the country’s individualistic social-economic system in order to drain it from its glowing achievements and global supremacy. The scope of this exploration is broad, but its often shocking details are accessible and verifiable. By providing little known or generally misunderstood information, the fundamental philosophical-cultural dots causing America’s present-day crises are exposed and connected for historical overview. Subjects include moral values, business/government-domestic/foreign policies, social-economic systems, political correctness, and the spread of personal, corporate, and political corruption. Highlighting early collectivist intellectuals who outlined scenarios to “transform” America such as H. G. Wells and Herbert Croly, York’s narrative moves on through the direct cultural damages inflicted by The Frankfurt School group and the Father of Community Organizing, Saul Alinsky, to the 1960s Hippies Movement and present-day tribal primitivism. Her cast of characters includes minor players involved in major events that have accelerated America’s interior demise and features Alinsky’s well-known heirs Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, who together are taking his playbook for community control to the national level. Beyond that, the current behind-the-scenes director, Hungarian-born George Soros, is introduced as extending Alinsky’s programming into a global setting that, if successful, will terminate America’s great experiment in individualism, capitalism, and freedom for all.
