For his attempts to oppose Nazism, he was arrested on 12 August 1944 and sentenced to death by the People’s Court. Eventually executed on 23 January 1945.
Gross opposed Nazism from the outset and later sought to organize resistance among Catholic workers in preparation for the July plot of 1944.
