He received a formal education at Harvard University, and later he spent several years in study and training for a career in Architecture.
In practice under the firm name Mr. Rantoul was connected with the design of many of the firm's largest works in New England, including additions to the Boston State Capitol, c.1913; State Armory; Dexter Building, and the State Library, all in Boston; Town Hall at Nahant, Mass., High School buildings at Brookline and Jamaica Plain; County Court House, Worcester, Mass., and the Connecticut School for the Blind at Hartford. Andrews, Jacques & Rantoul also prepared plans for three important buildings in Denver, Colo., the Children's Hospital, Equitable Building, completed in 1890, and the Boston Office Building.

An early member of the Boston Society of Architects, A. I. A. and raised to Institute Fellowship in 1911.
