Career
Delawarean Margaret Thompson began her career in the opera houses of Germany, Austria, Spain and later the United States where she sang over 50 operatic roles such as Octavian, Frika, Charlotte, Eboli, Venus, Composer, Sesto and Cherubino.
She has performed opposite such greats as Plácido Domingo, Anna Netrebko, Matti Salminen, Patricia Racette,Roberto Alagna, Angela Gheorghiu, Dolora Zajick, and Vladimir Chernov at Teatro Real de Madrid, Los Angeles Opera, Washington National Opera, Volksoper Wien, Spoleto Festival and New York City Opera.
Ms. Thompson has been heard in major concert halls such as Carnegie Hall, Avery Fischer Hall, Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center and Gewandhaus Leipzig where she has performed over 50 oratorio roles in the United States and throughout Europe. She has also sung with conductors such as James Conlon, Alan Gilbert, Peter Schneider, Julius Rudel, Mstislav Rostropovich, Kent Nagano, Lawrence Foster and Asher Fisch.
Ms. Thompson has been 1st Prize winner of several competitions including the "Christa Ludwig" Vocal Academy Competition, the "Salzburg Mozarteum" Competition, the "German Silver Medallion" for "Best Singer of the Year", Prize Winner/Finalist for the "Sylvia Geszty Coloratura" Competition and nomminated in Opernwelt Magazine as "Best Young Singer of the Year" for Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Her recent appearances have included Los Angeles Opera's "The Ring" cycle, Suzuki in Washington National Opera's production of Madama Butterfly, and Beethoven's 9th Symphony at Avery Fisher Hall.
Upcoming apperances in 2012 include Suzuki for Opera Nashville's Madama Butterfly in September and October, then her return to the Metropolitan Opera as Suzy in their La Rondine production.
