Clemens Kalischer studied at Lycée Michelet in Paris, at Cooper Union and at the New School for Social Research, both in New York City.
Clemens Kalischer emigrated to France via Switzerland (1933) and then to the United States via Morocco (1942). Self-employed since 1949, he directed Image Gallery, Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Clemens Kalischer also taught photography at Berkshire Community College and Williams College, Wilhamstown, Massachusetts. He previously worked for Coronet magazine (1948-1949) and for France Press News Agency (1947-1948).
Clemens Kalischer has been president of the Edna St. Vincent Millay Art Colony in Austerlitz, New York, since 1975, and in that year served with the New York Governor's Task Force on the Arts.
Clemens Kalischer died on June 9, 2018, in Lenox, Massachusetts, United States.
