Lo Ting Yu studied at Queen's College in Hongkong in 1900-1904. Then he was sent by the Canton Government to America in 1904 to specialize in cotton manufacturing at the New Bedford Textile School from which he was graduated in 1907.
After that he was sent to England to specialize in the woollen and worsted industries at Leeds University, graduating in 1911. Mr. Yu was awarded the certificate in woollen and worsted weaving (Div. 1) by the City and Guilds London Institute, Department of Technology in 1911.
He returned to China in 1911 and was admitted to the Hanlin Academy in 1912.
Mr. Yu was chief technical inspector of the Canton Industrial Department in 1911-1912, editor of the Industrial Journal in Canton, china in 1911-1912, head of the technical department, Canton Industrial Bureau in 1912-1913, professor in the textile department of the Government Technical College in 1913, member of the chief technical expert department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce in 1922-1926, organizer and managing director of the Kai Yuen Woollen and Carpet Factory in Peking, China in 1918, technical adviser to Yung Yeh Wool Spinning Factory in 1924-1926.
He also held patent right No. 57 for wool oil pads of special construction for use in axle-boxes on railway cars and was an author of "Travel in America".
