He was born in Foochow, Fukien, China on the 24th of November in 1893.
Wu Hsien studied at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, U.S.A. in 1916 and got the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Harvard University in 1919.
Mr. Wu first worked as an assistant in chemistry at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1916-1917. Then he was an assistant in biochemistry at Harvard Medical School in 1919-1920.
He was an associate professor of biochemistry in 1924-28, professor of biochemistry starting from 1928. Then he became a chairman at Peking Union Medical College, Peipince. He wrote "General Treatise on Nutrition," in 1929 and "Principles of Physical Biochemistry".
