Chao Tsi-cheng graduated with Bachelor of Arts degree from Soochow University, Soochow in 1910. In 1916 he graduated with Master of Arts and in 1917 with Bachelor of Divine degrees from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee. His Doctor of Letters degree was conferred by Soochow University in 1927.
Mr. Chao was a professor of sociology and religion at Soochow University from 1917 to 1923. He also worked as a professor of philosophy at Soochow University between 1923 and 1925. Since 1926 Chao Tsi-cheng held the post of a professor of philosophy of Christianity at Yenching University, Peking.
From 1928 he took up the position of a dean of the school of religion at Yenching University. Mr. Chao was a delegate to the general conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, held in Oklahoma City, U.S.A. in 1914.
He took part in World Student Christian Federation Conference, held in Peking in 1922. Chao Tsi-cheng was a member of the National Christian Conference, held in Shanghai in 1922.
In 1928 Mr. Chao was a delegate to the enlarged meeting of the International Missionary Council held in Jerusalem. Since 1922 he was elected member of the National Committee of the Y.M.C.A. Since that time he also was a member of the National Christian Council.
