He was born in Kaifeng, Honan, China in 1889.
Mr. Ping attended the Imperial University of Peking in 1904-1908. Then he went to America and studied at Cornell University, Ithaca N.Y. in 1910-1918. There he recieved Bachelor or Science and Arts degree in 1913 and Doctor of Philosophy in 1918.
After that Mr. Ping studied at the Wistar Institute of Anatomy and Biology in Philadelphia, USA as a research fellow in anatomy.
Chih Ping returned to China 1920 and was professor of zoology at National University in Nanking, China in 1921-1927, visiting professor at the University of Amoy in Fukien, China in 1926-1928, charter member of the Science Society of China and member of the board of directors in 1922, member of examination committee on awarding fellowships and prizes of the China Foundation for the Promotion of Education and Culture in 1927-1929, technical adviser to the National Education Convention in 1928, inspector on advanced education in Manchuria for the China Foundation in 1930, director of the biological laboratory of the Science Society of China in Nanking in 1922, director of the Fan Memorial Institute of Biology in Peiping, China in 1928.
Mr. Ping was an author of "The Biology of Ephydra Subopaca", "The Gastropods of North China", "The Anatomy of the Porpoise" and "The Cerebrum of Felis Tigris".
