Chen Chien-hsiu graduated from Peking Government University and later from London University, England, with Master of Arts degree.
Chen Chien-hsiu was a professor of psychology and education in the Peking Government University. He was an assistant professor in the school of natural science of the 4th Chungshan University in Kwangtung. Then he became an assistant professor in the school of physics of the Central Government University at Nanking.
In 1927 Mr. Chen was appointed director of the bureau of education of the Nanking Special Municipality. He worked as a director of the department of social education of the University Council (now Ministry of Education). From 1928 to 1930 Chen Chien-hsiu served as a director of the department of social education and concurrently director of the department in charge of the Mongolian and Thibetan education of the Ministry of the Education.
Since 1934 he held the post of a dean, School of Education, Central University. While studying in England, he attended the 2nd World Educational Conference held in Edinburgh in 1925 on behalf of the Chinese educational bodies and contributed articles to leading English papers.
