He attended the Mukden Normal School in 1914-1918, Chinese Y.M.C.A. (Young Men's Christian Association) English School in Tokyo, Japan in 1919-1920. From 1920 to 1924 he studied at College of Commerce, University of California, where he received his B.S. (Bachelor of Science) degree.
Sherman Soo was a manager of the Chinese Students' Quarterly in 1923-1924, editor of the National Welfare in San Francisco, USA in 1922-1923, general secretary of the National Welfare Society in San Francisco, USA in 1922-1923.
After that he became a secretary of the Lida Company in Mukden, China in 1925-1926, instructor of English at the Normal School in Mukden, China in 1925-1926, secretary to Gen.
