Williams Spent his first three years at Phoebus High School in Hampton, Virginia before transferring to Oak Hill Academy for his final year. In his senior season, he averaged 16.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists for the Warriors. Williams was recruited by a number of college programs.
Williams cited his relationship with head coach Tom Crean and the style of play as major factors in committing to play for the Hoosiers.
Freshman year
Williams started all 32 games as a freshman. He averaged 7.3 points and 4.4 rebounds per game while shooting over 50% from the field
He was twice named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week. Sophomore year
Prior to the 2014-2015 season, the Hoosiers took a trip to Canada to play against some of the country"s college programs.
Williams averaged 18.4 points and 6.4 rebounds over the course of the road trip.
On December 23, 2014, he was named Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week. Williams finished the season with a double-double in a loss to 7-seed Wichita State in the second round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament. Following the season, Williams considered entering the 2015 National Basketball Association draft, but decided to return to Bloomington for his junior year.
