Career
He played for his hometown club TuS Neuendorf. Retiring from active play in 1953 he took part in a coach training course under Sepp Herberger, receiving his license in 1954, before embarking on his remarkable career as a manager the following year. His last coaching job was in 2003 with the Samoa national football team
