Ashton-Griffiths studied at Lancaster University (1975-78), where he was a member of Furness College, and graduated with a BMus.
In 2003, he attained an MA in Fine Art from the University of East London, and in 2016, he attained a Ph.D. in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia.
Roger Ashton-Griffiths began his career as a singer with English National Opera at the London Coliseum between 1979 and 1981.
