(The ideas of uncertain variables based on uncertain logic...)
The ideas of uncertain variables based on uncertain logics have been introduced and developed for a wide class of uncertain systems. The purpose of this mo- graph is to present basic concepts, definitions and results concerning the uncertain variables and their applications to analysis and decision problems in uncertain systems described by traditional mathematical models and by knowledge rep- sentations. I hope that the book can be useful for graduate students, researchers and all readers working in the field of control and information science. Especially for those interested in the problems of uncertain decision support systems and unc- tain control systems. I wish to express my gratitude to my co-workers from the Institute of Control and Systems Engineering of Wroclaw University of Technology, who assisted in the preparation of the manuscript. My special thanks go to Dr L.Siwek for the valuable remarks and for his work concerning the formatting of the text.

computer science and engineering educator
Bubnicki, Zdzislaw was born on June 17, 1938 in Lvov, Poland. Son of Franciszek and Stefania Bubnicki.
Master of Science, Silesian Technology University, Gliwice, Poland, 1960. Doctor of Philosophy, Wroclaw (Poland) University of Technology, 1964. Doctor of Science, Wroclaw (Poland) University of Technology, 1967.
His main scientific interests concerned: decision theory, control theory, system identification, pattern recognition, expert systems, and knowledge-based systems, complexes of operations, and methodology of computer systems Since 1962 he moved to Wroclaw where he worked at Wroclaw University of Technology. Several years later, in 1973 he became an assistant professor and in 1979 - a professor
Foreign many years he was a chief of Institute of Control and Systems Techniques at Wroclaw University of Technology.
Professor Bubnicki was a supervisor of 44 Doctor of Philosophy dissertations, and now 16 of them are professors. Results of his work had a big influence on the control and decision theory.
Especially so called uncertain variables, that are extensions of fuzzy sets, was one of his biggest contributions to the field of computer science. He was honoured with many Polish and international rewards, e.g.
Krzyż Kawalerski i Krzyż Oficerski Orderu Odrodzenia Polski, IFIP medal.
He is a doctor of honoris causa of following universities: West Pomeranian University of Technology, Poznan University of Technology, Military University of Technology.
