Gazvoda was born in Novo Mesto in southeastern Slovenia in 1985.

He studied at the Academy for Theatre, Radio, Film and Television in Ljubljana.
He has published a number of novels and collections of short stories and also has written the scripts for two successful television dramas and has recently written and directed his first feature film Izlet (A Trip) (2011). His 2011 film A Trip was selected as the Slovenian entry for the Best Foreign Language Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards, but it did not make the final shortlist.
