He is most well known for his role as Oliver Lloyd (Ollie), a dance student, on the American Broadcasting Company television series Dance Academy, Uriah Pedrad in The Divergent Series: Insurgent, Wally West in The Flash, and Eldon Hanon in The Finest Hours. In 2007, Lonsdale got his first acting job in the film, Razzle Dazzle. The following year, he played in one episode of the Australian television series, All Saints.

Keiynan released his first single on iTunes titled "One and Only", on May 20, 2014. Lonsdale played Uriah, opposite Shailene Woodley, in the second film of the Divergent trilogy, titled The Divergent Series: Insurgent, which was released 20 March 2015.
He briefly reprised the role in The Divergent Series: Allegiant (2016). In August 2015, Lonsdale was cast as Wally West in a series regular role on the second season of The Flash.
Originally he auditioned for the role of Jefferson "Jax" Jackson, but this was given to Franz Drameh.
