Manuel Quintana studied law at the University of Buenos Aires and graduated in 1855.

He died in office. In 1870 he was elected Senator. In 1873 he became a Freemason. The attempt failed and the president and the first lady survived.
Seriously ill, the president died in his private residence in Belgrano, on March 12, 1906.
Manuel Quintana was buried in Louisiana Recoleta Cemetery in Buenos Aires.
In 1864 he was elected member of the Argentine Chamber of Deputies.
