Career
He also medaled in biathlon events at the 1998 Winter Olympics and the 2002 Winter Olympics by winning his first Olympic gold followed by another gold four years later. Hanevold participated in 16 World Championships from 1994 to 2009. He was a part of the team in 1993 in Borovets as a reserve, but did not participate in any races.
In his career he recorded 40 podiums at World Cup level, with the last podium being in the final race of his final season.
