(To achieve compactness, the surface geometries of heat ex...)
To achieve compactness, the surface geometries of heat exchangers must have high heat transfer surface area per unit volume. The flow passages then become narrow and the shape of the passages is often very complex. In addition, turbulators and surface modifications are used to enhance the heat transfer performance. During recent years, numerical methods for solving flow and heat transfer problems have been developed to such an extent that reliable predictions of the velocity and temperature fields, associated pressure drops and heat fluxes relevant to compact heat exchangers are possible in many cases. This book covers those recent advances in computer simulations of compact heat exchangers, as well as their limitations and needs for further research and development.

(Heat transfer plays an important role in almost every fie...)
Heat transfer plays an important role in almost every field of engineering. Presented here is a unique collection of papers on experimental, theoretical and numerical investigations of fundamental and applied features in the fields of boiling, evaporation and two-phase flow, cooling of electronics, heat transport affected by electromagnetic fields, and thermal radiation. Fundamental studies focusing on understanding the mechanisms of heat transfer processes as well as valuable results and formulas for engineering design are provided. The book will serve as a valuable source of data and of recent progress in the understanding and prediction of various heat transfer phenomena. Since it not only presents a novel collection of qualified works in established fields but also in topics not commonly studied, it will be of value to researchers, engineers and those involved in mechanical, chemical and nuclear engineering.

(Extended surfaces like fins are frequently employed in en...)
Extended surfaces like fins are frequently employed in engineering applications to enhance the heat transfer performance. To improve the analysis of individual fins and fin assemblies, numerical methods may be a useful tool. This book presents recent advances in modeling the thermal phenomena in single fins, fin assemblies, analysis of transient operating conditions, fins in porous media, louvered fins in heat exchangers, etc. Consists of 10 edited chapters. A brief introduction to fins and extended surface heat transfer is followed by analysis of single fins of various geometries and subject to various conditions. Then fin assemblies and assessment of their performance is provided. Finally, applications to heat exchangers are discussed. The book presents recent investigations and results from some research groups. A unique collection of fundamental and applied topics is put forward.
