He is most famous for the Hungarian Parliament Building built in Neo-gothic style, but his other outstanding works include the Saint Elizabeth Church as well as the reconstruction of the Saint Elizabeth Church and the Hunyad Castle. Steindl went blind before the completion of the Hungarian Parliament and died in 1902 in Budapest. He is buried at Kerepesi Cemetery.
His architectural interest was initially historicism, then Renaissance and Gothic style.
