Career
An all-around 6 ft 5 in (196 m) shooting guard-small forward, he earned an All-Euroleague Second Team selection during the Euroleague 2003-2004 season, while playing for Euroleague team Montepaschi Siena. He is currently an assistant coach with the Portland Trail Blazers. Vanterpool played high school basketball at Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, Maryland and he later played college basketball at Saint Bonaventure University between 1991 and 1995.
In 1995, he was selected in the Continental Basketball Association draft by the Quad City Thunder.
In October–November 1995, he played for a week in Italy for the LegADue (second division) team Brescialat Gorizia. From 1996 to 1999, Vanterpool played for the Jilin Northeast Tigers in the Chinese New Basketball Alliance (1996-1997) and Chinese Basketball Association (1998-1999), and the Continental Basketball Association"s Yakima Sun Kings between 1999 and 2001.
He also played 22 games for the Washington Wizards of the National Basketball Association in 2000-2001 and the American Bar Association"s Kansas City Knights in 2001-2002. He was signed for a brief period by the Detroit Pistons (2000) and the New Jersey Nets (2001), but he did not play in any National Basketball Association games for those clubs.
After retiring as a player for CSKA Moscow, Vanterpool became an assistant coach with the team from 2007 until 2012.
On August 17, 2012, Vanterpool was named as an assistant coach for the Portland Trail Blazers. On June 2, 2015, Vanterpool and Jim Boylen were named to the coaching staff of the Canada men"s national basketball team
