She served as Dean of Goucher College from 1921-1947 and was a professor of history at Goucher from 1921-1955. Stimson served as the president of the History of Science Society during 1953-1957. Her research interest included the reception of the Copernican theory.
Stimson graduated from Vassar College in 1912 with a bachelor"s degree.
She earned her master"s degree a year later and then obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in 1917, both from Columbia University. In 1929, Doctor Stimson was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship for British History.
