He was called up to the majors for the first time on August 19, 2014. Garces was optioned to American Automobile Association on August 23, after making two scoreless appearances for San Diego.On October 4, 2015, he made his first major league start against the Dodgers. He took the loss in a 7-2 game.

He was non tendered after the season but was re-signed a few weeks later.
