Compositions include 13 operas, including Die Tödlichen Wünsche, 1959, Jakobowsky und der Oberst, 1965, Die Fastnachsbeichte, 1983. 5 ballets. Orchestral works include Die Zwitschermaschine, 6 symphonies, Concerto for Pipe Organ and Orchestra, Begrüssung Salutations, Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra, Song for Orchestra, Nocturne for Orchestra, Concerto for Harpe and Orchestra, Soirée for Trombone and Chamber Ensemble, Concerto for Violoncello and Orchestra in One Movement.Chamber music includes 3 string quartets, works for speaker, piano, cembalo and contrabass, Roman Elegies for speaker, piano and contrabass, Elegia Appassionata for piano trio, Berlioz Variations for pipe organ and percussion, Al Rovescio for flute, harp, piano and metallidiophone, Alborada for harp solo, Der Dunkle Gedanke for clarinet and piano, Il Ritorno—Variations on the Moudscheinsonae of Beethoven, for horn and piano. Sacred music includes Stabat Mater, Mass for choir and pipe organ, Chorale and Tedeum, Weihnachtsoratorium.
