The son of an Royal Air Force fighter pilot, Peter Brett Walker was born on 29 September 1949 in the Staffordshire village of Rowley Regis.

Educated at Pocklington School and Durham University, Walker joined the Royal Air Force as a flight cadet at Royal Air Force College Cranwell in 1969. He served as a fighter pilot flying the Phantom FGR2 and Tornado F3 aircraft and went on to command Number. 111 Squadron. In 1993 he went to the Falkland Islands to command Royal Air Force Mount Pleasant.
He went on to be Commander of the Joint Warfare Centre in Norway in 2005 and retired in 2007.
In retirement he became Lieutenant Governor of Guernsey and died in that role on 6 September 2015.
