Amaury de Riencourt was born in Orleans in a family of the French nobility which dates back at least to the 12th century. He graduated from university in the Sorbonne and did masters at the University of Algiers. In 1947, he visited Tibet and stayed in Lhasa where he remained five months, and declared that the country was governed only in all areas, as an independent nation, adding that the orders of his government were underway across the country.
