Creigh Deeds (Robert Creigh Deeds)

Creigh Deeds is an American politician. He is a member of the Senate of Virginia.


  • Creigh Deeds is the son of Robert Livingston and Emma Tyree Deeds. He was named after confederate war hero, David Creigh. His family moved early in his life to Bath County.

    He married Pamela Kay Miller. They have 4 children: Amanda Jane, Rebecca Lewis, Susannah Kemper, and Austin Creigh.

  • Education

    • After graduating from high school, Deeds enrolled in Concord College. He then entered the Wake Forest University School of Law, from which he received his Juris Doctor in 1984.


    • He was the Democratic nominee for Governor of Virginia in 2009. He also ran in the 2005 race for Attorney General of Virginia. He was defeated in both of the above races by Bob McDonnell. Deeds lost by just 323 votes in 2005, but was defeated by a wide margin of almost 18 percentage points in 2009. He was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 1992 to 2001 and has served in the Senate of Virginia since December 2001.


    Deeds won election to the Virginia House of Delegates 1991 by defeating incumbent Emmett Hanger in a 57%-41% victory. This started a nine-year career in the Virginia House of Delegates.

    Politics and history


    • On November 19, 2013, Deeds was critically wounded during an incident at his home in Millboro, in Bath County, Virginia, where he was stabbed multiple times by his son Austin "Gus" Deeds. Gus was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the home. Senator Deeds recovered and was discharged three days later.
