Recipient Con Lee Kelliher award St. Louis chapter Sigma Delta Chi, 1962; award American Political Science Association, 1963; award Sigma Delta Chi, 1968; Pulitzer prize special local reporting, 1969; 1st prize San Francisco Press Club, 1977; Beacon award for lifetime achievement, 1st Amendment Coalition, 2004. Served with United States Marine Corps, 1954-1958.
