Ho Cheng-chun graduated from the Japanese Military Officers' Academy, Tokyo.
Mr. Ho joined Tongmenghui in Japan in 1910. Since 1912 he served as a Lieutenant general and chief of general affairs of Ministry of War of Nanjing Provisional Government. Ho Cheng-chun was a commander of the advance force of the Eastern Route Bandit Suppression Army, Fujian, in 1922. He was appointed Commander-in-Chief of Fujian Army in 1924 and later Commander-in-Chief of Hubei Army of Chien Kuo Chun. The same year he became a Commander-in-Chief of Left Wing of the Northern Expeditionary Army. In 1926 he was a director of peace maintenance bureau of Northern Hubei and member of Hubei Political Council.
Ho Cheng-chun was appointed high adviser to the National Revolutionary Army Headquarters in Nanjing and member of Military Council in 1927. The following year he took up the post of a Chairman of National Military Advisory Council of National Government. From 1929 Mr. Ho acted as a director of the Commander-in-Chief's Provisional Headquarters in Peking and Commander of 9th Bandit Suppression Army. Since winter of 1929 Mr. Ho was appointed Commander-in-Chief of 5th Route Army of Bandit Suppression Forces. In 1930 he served as a Chairman of Hubei Provincial Government and concurrently Commander of 3rd Unit of Bandit Suppression Army State Councillor of the National Government. Since 1931 he became member of the Central Executive Committee of Kuomintang and director of the Hubei Pacification Headquarters.
