He got bachelor’s degree in the University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland, a Master’s degree in art (Wisconsin University, USA) in 1976 and a Master’s degree in education (Simon Fraser University, Canada) in 1982.
He became a member of Basutoland Congress Party in 1967, taking active part at the work of its Youth League. He was arrested in 1970 for this activity and spent more than a year in prison. After being released, Pakalitha Mosisili worked as a teacher’s assistant, a deputy director and a teacher of African languages in a number of universities.
When the country became free from England and was named the Kingdom of Lesotho in 1966, the country was ruled by Moshoeshoe II, but he was disposed by the military powers and sent to exile to the United Kingdom and his son was forced to take his place as king. In a year he becomes prime-minister’s deputy and is elected as a leader of Lesotho Congress for Democracy in 1998.
