(This book is about the best news the world has ever heard...)
This book is about the best news the world has ever heard - the message of salvation. The Bible itself the word of salvation, the gracious message that glorifies God by persuading sinners to believe in Jesus Christ. In this wide-ranging exposition, Philip Ryken opens up God's saving message from Holy Scripture, using biblical stories, sermons, letters, and poems. He explores how we are saved from sin, by grace, through faith, for God's glory. This involves a comprehensive look at salvation themes such as inability to save ourselves, how we are chosen in Christ, our deliverance and redemption, our adoption as God's children, and our mission to get this message of hope out.

( Two respected pastors make a compelling case for the ne...)
Two respected pastors make a compelling case for the need to recover the five fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith. We live in an age of weak theology and casual Christianity. And this situation will continue as long as God's people insist on substituting intuition for truth, feeling for belief, and immediate gratification for enduring hope. Yet if evangelicalism will again denounce this self-centered faith and place Christ and his cross at the center of its vision, the church will see great days once more. According to authors James Montgomery Boice and Philip Graham Ryken, this will happen when believers specifically return to the gospel foundation with its doctrines of radical depravity, unconditional election, particular redemption, efficacious grace, and persevering grace. As these two noted pastors provide a compelling exposition of these essential truths, they also consider the current challenges, leaving no doubt that the church suffers when the doctrines of grace are neglected. Only in a faith that is practical-minded, kindhearted, and Bible-based will Christians recover what they have lost in this postmodern age. Now in paperback.

( The Lord's Prayer, the greatest prayer in the Bible, co...)
The Lord's Prayer, the greatest prayer in the Bible, comes from the heart of the Savior, the Son of God, to his Heavenly Father. It is proclaimed at celebrations, cried in times of war, whispered in the face of death. In a society where people are bombarded by worry and concern, violence and evil, it is so important to meet with the Heavenly Father in the intimate solitude of prayer. Pastor Philip Ryken urges readers to recognize the power that the Lord's Prayer holds. This model reminds us that God is our protector and provider. It expresses our every need and gratitude to the one who graciously provides. By intently studying and applying this passage, Christians will recognize that this pattern of prayer holds the promise of a changed life.

(Salvation is a well-worn Christian term. We think we know...)
Salvation is a well-worn Christian term. We think we know what it means. But biblically speaking, salvation is one of those big terms that encircles a number of others, each of them reflecting a stunning facet of God's grace in Jesus Christ. Philip Ryken has chosen nineteen biblical passages that take us deeper into the biblical teaching on salvation. The centerpiece of each passage has a familiar ring: election, deliverance, redemption, expiation, reconciliation, regeneration, justification, adoption, sanctification and glorification. But each facet directs us by turns to a glory far exceeding itself. If this world is indeed lost, then understanding and proclaiming the grammar of God's gracious salvation exceeds by bounds the significance of a Human Genome Project or any other great human endeavor. A passion for the grandness of God's work shows through as Philip Ryken illuminates the contours of the message of salvation.

( The “Weeping Prophet,” the rabbis said, began wailing t...)
The “Weeping Prophet,” the rabbis said, began wailing the moment he was born. Jeremiah had reason to weep—he witnessed the devastating consequences of life without God. Sadly, the relativism Jeremiah saw in ancient Israel predominates in America today. That’s why his words are so relevant for our lives. Better than anyone else, Jeremiah exemplifies—through his courage, passion, even his sufferings—how believers can live for God in a society that has turned against Him. While the book of Jeremiah shared the last, desperate days of the Jerusalem he loved, Lamentations expresses the cries of his heart. Yet they reveal more than the prophet’s grief—they are an attempt to reflect on the meaning of human suffering. Lamentations gives voice to the deepest agonies, with the hope that some comfort may come from crying out to God for mercy. Together the two books illustrate the eternal principle that man reaps what he sows. It is a lesson the world—and the church—needs to learn. With the heart of a pastor and the knowledge of a scholar, Philip Graham Ryken applies these words of life to us today. His commentary will not only help you understand and teach from these spiritually relevant books, but also it will inspire you with the courage and passion of God’s personal call for you to live in these times.

(Is the world turning its back on God? Western civilizatio...)
Is the world turning its back on God? Western civilization is standing at a crossroad -- a crossroad where God is beckoning his people to do as the prophet Jeremiah did. To stand up and speak the truth. To follow God, even if it hurts. To weep for the rudderless people you meet every day. To pray and influence our culture for Christ. In Jeremiah's day, a time much like our own, public life was becoming dominated by pagan ideas and practices. Jeremiah showed courage and passion even through his sufferings -- to show us how to live for God in today's difficult times. This is the story of his life and ministry: in it, you will find down-to-earth help and fresh examples on how to live, think, and feel in a godless culture and encouragement to proclaim the truth of God's word -- regardless of cost. Your stand may also lead to opposition, hostility and even persecution, but God promises that in the end victory will be yours as you grow in courage and devotion.
