Shun-E was born in 1113 in Japan. He was the son of Minamoto no Toshiyori.

Shun-E was born in 1113 in Japan. He was the son of Minamoto no Toshiyori.
Eighty-three of his poems were included in imperial anthologies, and Shun-E was recognized as one of the Late Classical Thirty-Six Immortals of Poetry. He was a poetic mentor to Kamo no Chōmei.
He is said to have held a poetry party every month at his home which he called Karin-en.
His poems are collected in Rin-yo Wakashii. One of his poems is contained in Hyakunin Isshii (One Hundred Poems By One Hundred Poets).
