( From the Gold Rush to the Summer of Love to the dotcom ...)
From the Gold Rush to the Summer of Love to the dotcom days, San Francisco has been a city of distinct neighborhoods. This savvy, entertaining guide explores the best of the city "on the ground" in tours that traverse its length and breadth. The 33 urban treks are a great way to soak up the history, culture, and vibe of the City by the Bay. The walk's commentary includes trivia about architecture, local culture, and neighborhood history, plus tips on where to dine, have a drink, or shop. Each tour includes a clear neighborhood map and vital public transportation and parking information. Route summaries make each walk easy to follow, and a Points of Interest section lists each walk's highlights. Walking San Francisco provides the perfect path for a weekend adventure, an after-work ramble, or a sociable pub crawl.

Why should you buy this book? Two reasons: * The net is full of abstract information on WHAT to write: my book is full of information on exactly HOW to write it. I include dozens of top-scoring, detailed essays from students of mine who have put my principles into practice. When you see step-by-step instructions on HOW someone has put an essay together, it's much more valuable that simply knowing "what" the principles of good writing entail. * My book is also full of practical advice on the seven Rules of Engagement you need to know about when constructing an essay. And yes, you can find some of this information scattered around the net, but it's rare to find everything you need in one location, well-organized and clearly presented. And that's why you should buy this book -- It not only shows HOW dozens of top-scoring essays have been produced by REAL students but also provides a comprehensive writing methodology that every student can follow. I also provide a FREE YouTube workshop series based on the book so students can see my methodology in action. Just type: "Killer SAT Essay" in any YouTube search window and join the discussion. ( In 1948, New Orleans veteran trumpeter and singer Louis...)
In 1948, New Orleans veteran trumpeter and singer Louis Prima stumbled into a young girl named Keely Smith. She was barely a performer at all, almost half his age, destined for a relatively quiet life; their encounter was pure coincidence. But they went on to invent The Wildest, the most exciting and successful lounge act Las Vegas has ever seen, an act that became one of the hottest in the U.S. in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Their records were hugely popular, and they were courted by Frank Sinatra, Ed Sullivan, Robert Mitchum, and other well-known entertainers of the day. Their professional success helped bring about the rise of Las Vegas as a mecca of American entertainment. Their love story ended soon after they helped usher in John F. Kennedys presidency, singing "That Old Black Magic" for him at his inauguration, but their influence is still evident. And Keely still draws SRO audiences to her nightclub appearances. Now, on the occasion of Louis Prima's 100th birthday, comes the first book on this duo, illustrating not only one of show business greatest love stories but also the Vegas milieu in which they reached the pinnacle of their success.
