Choy, Jin-Ho was born on September 1, 1948 in Seoul, Republic of Korea. Son of Jae-Duk Choy and Hak-Ye Park.
Choy received his Bachelor of Surgery (1970) and Master of Surgery degrees (1972) in chemical engineering from Yonsei University in Seoul. Afterwards he received a diploma in 1975 from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization Post-Graduate Course in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Research Laboratory of Engineering Materials, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan. He then moved to Germany, where he earned his Doctor of Philosophy (1979) in inorganic chemistry at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.
Professor Seoul National University, 1981—2004, head department, 1998—1999, vice dean, 1999—2000. Distinguished professor Ewha Woman's University, since 2004. Visiting professor Université de Bordeaux (France) I, 1985—1986.
