Career
He graduated from academy in 1964 and being a second lieutenant in 16th artillery regiment he participated in military conflict in 1965 (struggle between India for Kashmir).
In 1966 Musharraf passed to the 19 th regiment Baluchistan which ifs famous as the department of special purpose “commandos”.
From 1973 till 1979 Pervez Musharraf was on different military posts studying at the same time in the National College of Defense and the College of military commanding. Having got a position of lieutenant colonel he was commanding the infantry division and different departments of artillery forces.
In 1985-1987 Musharraf was the commander of 323th infantry division in Dansam (the North of the country). He created his own special military department “Snow” .
In 1989-1990 Musharraf was on different posts in army including the post of agent of military secretary. He became the member of military organization of national College of Defense. In 1991 Musharraf was the major general and the commander of 40th infantry division and in 1995 – the lieutenant-general, the head of the “Mangla” corpus (later transformed in “Multan”).
After coming home on October 12, 1999 he made a revolution and established control on all spheres of life: his fellow-soldiers were the heads of different sectors. He created special armed teams for observing the civil power structures and later in 2001 he declared himself a president.
In 2002 Musharraf carried out formal referendum, introduced the amendments in constitution and declared on conversion to civilian ruling, prolonging his presidential privileges at the same time. Parliamentary elections legitimized his status in the same year. Musharraf passed the executive power to the new prime minister. Under opposition’s pressure Musharraf promised to “put off” the military form till December 31, 2004 and he became civil president. But Parliament approved the law which allowed Musharraf to keep both posts (the president and Commander-in-Chief).
