Duchossois graduated from Morgan Park Military Academy and attended Washington and Lee University before starting active military service during World World War World War II
Richard Duchossois joined Thrall Carolina Manufacturing Company after World World War II and became Chief Executive Officer in 1952. In 1980, the firm purchased Chamberlain Manufacturing Corporation, with Duchossois becoming its Chairman. In 1983, as Chairman of renamed Duchossois Industries (DII), he purchased Arlington Park Race Track.
In 2000, Arlington Park merged with Churchill Downs Incorporated, where DII has several seats on the Board of Directors.
He also owned Des Moines television Station KDSM-television (formerly KCBR-television) from 1983 to 1991. He serves as a director of TCMC, Incorporated., the Emirates World Series of Racing, and the Thoroughbred Racing Association.
Served with United States Army, 1942-1946, European Theatre of Operations. Member Chief Executives Organisation, Economic Club, Executives Club (board directors), Jockey Club New York City.
