      Founded Church of the Disciples (new Unitarian church), Boston, 1841. Minister Unitarian Church, Meadville, Pennsylvania, 1850-1854. Member Massachusetts Board Education, 1863-1869.

      Trustee Boston Public Library, 1879-1888. Non-resident professor Harvard Divinity School, 1867-1871, lecturer on ethic, 1867-1877, board overseers Harvard College, 1863-1872, 73-85, 86-88. Active on behalf of temperance, anti-slavery, women’s sufferage.

      Author: The Christian Doctrine of Forgiveness of Sin, 1852. Orthodoxy, Its Truths and Errors, 1866. Ten Great Religions, 2 vols., 1870, 86.
