Background
Mayer, Erich Anton was born on April 11, 1930 in Vienna, Austria. Son of Wilhelm Friederich and Magda (Gergely) Mayer. He arrived in England as a refugee in 1938 in the care of the Barbican Mission to the Jews. He migrated to Australia in 1948 where he was reunited with his parents in 1949. He joined National Mutual Life in 1949 and became involved in the early installation of computer systems in that company. He eventually became its Managing Director and retired from that job in 1990 to become a company director and an organic walnut farmer. Together with his partner, Wendy Mayer, he founded Wellwood Wallace which became a successful organic walnut grower and processor. The walnut business was sold in 2013 and is being continued by the purchasers, see wellwood.com.au.
