Miyasaka was born on September 10, 1953 in Kamakura, Kanagawa, Japan; the son of Teruo and Teiko (Soda) Miyasaka.

Miyasaka was born on September 10, 1953 in Kamakura, Kanagawa, Japan; the son of Teruo and Teiko (Soda) Miyasaka.
Miyasaka received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Waseda University in 1976. Two years later he was given a Master of Science degree in Engineering and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1981.
Miyasaka began his career as a researcher at Ashigara Research Laboratories of Fuji Photo Film Company in Kanagawa in 1981. Ten years later he became a manager at the same company.
In 2001, Tsutomu joined the Toin University of Yokohama in Japan as professor in Graduate School of Engineering. In 2004, he has established a TUY-based company, Peccell Technologies and served as Chief Executive Officer.
Two years later Miyasaka took a position of the dean of the Graduate School at the Toin University of Yokohamaand and held it for three years. He also worked as a guest professor at The University of Tokyo in 2005-2010.
Nowadays Tsutomu is a professor of the Toin University of Yokohama and a fellow of Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology of The University of Tokyo.
Miyasaka is a member of Japan Chemical Society, American Electrochemical Society, Japan Electrochemical Society.
On April 18, 1985 Tsutomu Miyasaka married Yayoi Kiyota. They have 2 children.
