Background
Ethnicity:
Mike Myers is of English, Irish and Scottish descent.
Mike Myers was born on May 25, 1963 in Scarborough, Toronto, Canada; the son of British-born parents Eric Myers, an insurance man and World War II veteran of the Royal Engineers, and his wife Alice E. Hind, an office supervisor and veteran of the Royal Air Force. He has two older brothers, Peter Myers and Paul Myers, an indie rock singer-songwriter, broadcaster, and author.
Myers' father shared his love of British comedy with his sons - Myers and his brothers - and sometimes would wake the boys up late at night to watch episodes of Monty Python or Benny Hill.
Education
Myers began school at Bishopbriggs Academy (now Sir John A. Macdonald Collegiate Institute) and then moved to the Stephen Leacock Collegiate Institute.
At the age of eight, he began performing in commercials, and at the age of ten, he made a commercial for British Columbia Hydro Electric. In high school, he was the Wayne's World character later known as Wayne Campbell. When he graduated from high school, he joined the Second City Theatre.
After graduating from high school, the aspiring actor went to Chicago, where for a couple of months he was engaged in comedy performances in the Second City group. In 1985, Mike moved to the United Kingdom, where, together with like-minded people, he founded the comedy ensemble The Comedy Store Players.
A year later, the actor returned to Canada, where he continued to perform with the Second City in Toronto and then moved to Chicago. By the beginning of the 1990s, he had participated in performances on local television and various media projects.
From 1989 to 1995, Mike Myers was a member of the NBC television show. In Saturday Night Live, he portrayed a character named Wayne Campbell. In 1992, the man, along with television colleague Dana Carvey, adapted a series of well-known thematic sketches from this show into the feature film Wayne's World.
A year later, the filmography of the artist was replenished with the sequel - the comedy Wayne's World - 2. At the same time, another successful film with the participation of the actor, So I Married an Axe Murderer, was released.
In 1997, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery was released on the big screens. In the comedy movie, Mike played two characters - Agent Austin Powers and Doctor Evil. After 2 years, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me came out. In addition to the main antagonist and protagonist of the picture, Myers played the role of a hero named Fat Bastard.
Before the release of the second part of the comedy Austin Powers, Myers also managed to play the first dramatic role in the film 54 (1998), where he played the role of the owner of the popular New York club. Later, the actor played another famous role - Mike voiced the ogre Shrek in the cult animated film of the same name. It is authentically known that initially the character was supposed to be dubbed by Chris Farley, but due to the fact that the actor died suddenly, the creators brought Myers to work.
He created a voice for Shrek with a deliberately Scottish accent, thereby emphasizing his roughness and uncouthness. Mike explains that people of this nationality are comedic when angry. For example, having started a conversation in a soft voice, they completely suddenly start to cry, expressing their indignation. Other characters in the tape were voiced by Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy, Vincent Cassel.
In 2002, the third part of the comedy spy film Austin Powers in Goldmember was released. For this role, Myers received $ 25 million. In 2003, the actor completed work on the American film Nobody Knows Anything!. He also starred in Bo Welch's movie, The Cat in the Hat. Later, Myers voiced the sequels of Shrek - Shrek-2 (2004), Shrek the Third (2007), and Shrek Forever After (2010).
In 2009, Quentin Tarantino's picture Inglourious Basterds was released. In the movie, Mike had a minor role as British general Ed Fenech. A year later, Myers announced himself in the comedy The Secret Life of Walter Mitty directed by Norman Z. Mcleod.
In 2016, The Hollywood Reporter magazine published information that Mike Myers was involved in the filming of Vaughn Stein's thriller Terminal. In the film, the actor played the role of Mr. Franklin, the crime boss. The movie did not have a deafening effect on film critics, but another project became a multiple winner of the Oscar. It was the biographical drama Bohemian Rhapsody, in which Mike appeared in a cameo role.
Today, Mike Myers is considered one of the most versatile actors of his generation. According to the Comedian's Comedian, Mike is one of the most famous comedians on the world screen. He gained world fame after releasing the Austin Powers trilogy.
Myers won four American Comedy Awards (Best Film Performance (Male) and Best Writing in 2003 and 2000, for Austin Powers in Goldmember and Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, respectively) and the 2000 American Comedy Award for Best Lead Actor for The Spy Who Shagged Me. In 1989 he received the Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing in a Variety or Music Program, for Saturday Night Live. He has also been nominated for two other Emmy Awards.
Mike Myers has won seven Music Television Movie Awards. For contributions to the motion picture industry, he was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 7042 Hollywood Boulevard.
He was awarded the Lucille Ball Legacy of Laughter Award at the 2008 television Land Awards. His award was presented to him by Justin Timberlake, his co-star in The Love Guru.
In 2003 Mike was inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame.
Mike Myers said: "I am a Canadian Protestant of English descent. My wife is of American, Jewish and Russian-Polish origin. For us, it became clear that, despite the different roots, we must have identical values in life… However, we are far from that policy."
Politics
Myers is a Liberal Democrat in the United States. He did participate in Occupy Wall Street protests in Toronto, which is probably a fair indication of liberal leanings. Mike has also donated $12,000 to Democrats and Democrat organizations, performed for Obama, and when 2008 Republican presidential candidate, John McCain, used Myers' old Saturday Night Live "Wayne's World" schtick in an attempt to disparage Obama, Myers threw a fit and demanded McCain cease and desist. Myers is a huge fan of liberal pundit, Rachel Maddow.
A few years ago, Mike Myers came out against Stephan Harper, the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada.
